The American Mastodon Publication celebrates Allhallowtide with the Release of The Legends of King Odum

Book Cover Designed by Rachel Buckley

In honor of the Saints, Holy Martyrs, and our Dearly Departed during Allhallowstide, Oct. 31st- Nov. 2nd, The American Mastodon Publication would like to celebrate with the release of two great works; The Legends of King Odum and The African Diaspora Census Report of 2022-2023. This is a time to remember our dearly departed and the lessons of life they left behind to enrich our time among the living. We lift their names in our prayers, visit their resting places, and plant flowers/give gifts in their honor.

The Legends of King Odum

Set during the reign of the Benin Empire, Akaso, the primary literature from The Legends of King Odum, is the story told from the natives a century before Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness and after, Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart. King Odum, is an actual figure from the late 1700s. As a young prince in the Niger Delta, during the European exploration of the Guinea coast, Odum sets out on a journey to find an Ingiminji (Mermaid), a local cult figure, only to discover she has been seized by a mutinous group aboard an infamous vessel of the East India Company, The Hartwell (1787). The challenges of Prieta, the mermaid, lead to a grand alliance within the Empire.

To summon the reader to better understand the culture of this novel, “Two Gods,” allows the two greatest ideas of the East and West to coalesce and ascertain the better concept. Through the guise of this cult, we discover two tales, which helped to shape the imagination and moral values of Prince Odum in, “Abayomi,” and “The Merchant’s Children.

Finally, in an act of war against Elem Kalabari, a region responsible for the sale of over 4 million enslaved persons out of Guinea, Odum is forced to relinquish his throne, in order to save his own kingdom from enslavement by neighboring tribes. King Odum, is a fallen medieval figure of precolonial West Africa researched by GI Jones, Trading States of The Oil Rivers (1963) & Kenneth Dike’s Trade and Politics in the Niger Delta (1956). The cross-cultural connections are widespread and abundant, bringing readers into the heart of Guinea and the Benin Empire, as well as the renown Frigates of the British East India Company. This short historical fiction creates written art out of history and opens an entire world for many to view with their spectacles, or open eyes, the wonders of the Dark Continent.

The African Diaspora Census Report of 2022-2023

The American Mastodon Publication is proud to announce The Afro American Quadrennial Census Report of 2022. Since 2013, the AMP has published a four year study on the population of Africans in the Diaspora. This year, in addition to Africans or Blacks in North, Central, and South America, we will include the African populations of Europe. Our last Census Publication, The African Census of 2020-2021 by Cowan Amaye-Obu reported that the worldwide African population was over 1,425,983,327 people as of July 2021 (African Census AMP 2021), and in comparing it to our Black Census Report of 2016 (Devil in the Details AMP 2016), AMP reported the African population had boomed over 400,000,000 people from the year 2016 to 2020. The most significant fact in our previous report was that Africans are the second largest population of people on Earth as of 2020. This fact was overshadowed by the SARS-COVID 19 Pandemic, but the effect of the virus was not as severe on the continent of Africa, as in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Due to the organization of Pan-African nations and the coordination of epidemic response protocols, experience, and performance, African nations were able to avoid large scale preventable deaths and weather the controversial introduction of COVID 19 into their nations with meticulous control of their borders, immigration, and consideration of the facts over Western propaganda & financial influence, whether for advice, treatments, vaccines, or lack of cooperation due to mistrust. For this reason, the African continent performed better than every continent save Australia, which was also able to minimize the effect of SARS-COVID 19 among its population. However, the Afro America or Africans in Diaspora populations in the Americas did not fair as well. Afro American populations in the Americas are subject to all manner of treatment from marginalization to the continued racial caste enslavement by their 21st Century Post Colonial European governments in rule of the nations of the Americas. Thus, health, unemployment, poverty, life expectancy, GDP per capita, marriage, and education remain vital statistics for African American Census Reports for Africans in Diaspora. The African Diaspora Census Report of 2022 will compare the results from the previous Report of 2017-2018. We hope to disclose some vital information and present our findings for review. We appreciate your donations to aid in the publication and with God's providence, will see you during Allhallowstide, Oct. 31, 2022. Thank you!

Ladies & Gentlemen,

The American Mastodon Publication is proud to announce The Afro American Quadrennial Census Report of 2022. Since 2013, the AMP has published a four year study on the population of Africans in the Diaspora. Comedian of the Decade 2020-2030: Damon Wayans "The Avant-Garde of Comedy"

There is a comedian, whose contribution is so meteoric, he was the headliner of the greatest comedy sketch show in television history, In Living Color (1990-1994). If you were not alive, you missed the show that inspired the generation of comedians we now know and love today. Before Kevin Hart or Dave Chappelle, our previous Comedians of the Decade reigned, Damon Wayans made us laugh from the stomach, by way of the ground. And although, the series, created by Keenan Ivory Wayans solidified the Wayans Family as Comedy Royalty, the show catapulted such acts as Jim Carrey, David Alan Grier, Tommy Davidson, Kelly Coffield Park, Kim Wayans, T'Keyah Crystal Keymah', Jamie Foxx, Anna Marie Johnson, Kim Cole, Rosie Perez, Jennifer Lopez, Shawn and Marlon Wayans. If one is a true connoisseur of comedy, one must digest these facts. No other show, besides Saturday Night Live or Def Comedy Jam, produced such a star quality catalog in such as short time. Still, if you watched In Living Color, Damon Wayans was the Star among Stars.

"Never underestimate the power of the Handi-Cap Man!" "So what have we learned children, that Homey don't play that!" "The first time I saw Damon Wayans on television, I cried from laughter."

If you remember Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop, Robert Townsend's Hollywood Shuffle, and Keenen Ivory Wayans' I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, you discovered the hilarious genius of Damon Wayans. It is important to go back and enjoy the early films. Even as a minor character in 1980s films, the brilliance of Damon often stole the show. This brilliance would lead to a career that blessed the lives of millions with genuine laughter and healing. Our Comedian of the Decade is Damon Wayans, The Avante Guard of Comedy. He is a brilliant star worthy of our accolades.

Fast forward to 1991, the premiere of, The Last Boy Scout, Damon Wayans appears alongside a young, Bruce Willis in the edgy thriller, marking the rise of his stardom and the paradigm domination of the Wayans Family as the Gate Keepers of American Comedy. Damon Wayans was at the top of the Hollywood Food Chain. It was a perfect storm ushered in by the commercialization of Hip Hop, the popularity of social commentary and Comedy Stand-Up routines, and a new era of tolerance. All of Black America, cheered the debut of Damon Wayans' Hollywood Headlining performance in, Mo' Money, which was a cultural phenomena. The film even added to the local slang with, "Mo' Money, Mo' Money, Mo!;"To describe Damon Wayans as meteoric, is not an understatement. Hollywood had found an unlikely, King of Comedy, versatile enough, to act alongside, Arnold Schwarzeneggar in, The Last Action Hero. All the dreams, disappointments, and hard work, finally paid off. But what was even more exciting, was that the success was not exclusive to Damon, and the wealth spread within the Wayans Family, and to all their 'wisely chosen,' talented friends. Keenan may have had the golden touch, and his genius deserves an award of another category, but Damon was the Gold. And Damon too, could write and spin his own tales of golden strings & webs. Ask the fans, who watched Blankman, and laughed until they cried, and then laughed some more. White America did not understand the funny. However, not only was Blankman, hilariously funny, but it was a risk to his career to teach the American populous the virtues of the common man, life's lessons, and manners. To Black America, the movie was a treasure, but to Hollywood, Damon needed to show them more! His golden performance in Major Payne, was a comedic accomplishment, which went beyond the concept & expectations of Hollywood and finally, everyone bowed down to the acting skills, superior writing, and brilliant showmanship of Damon Wayans. Damon Wayans became a staple to Americans and in turn, a fixture in Hollywood. Throughout the 1990s, the Wayans controlled 'funny,' in America with the precision of Naked Gun. No one can forget how Damon Wayans' star power ushered in the comedic rise of Adam Sandler in the film, Bulletproof (1996). The accolades of a diamond do not need to be mentioned because everyone knows, its a diamond. Still, Hollywood is yet to praise our honoree in grandiose & pomp, as is deserved by his impact on American society and his influence on later generations.

The filmography of Damon Wayans can stand alongside the greatest Comedians of all time.Yet, if you had the opportunity to view during primetime, My Wife & Kids, the television show, one would agree, the comedy genius of Damon & the Wayans Family tree had no equal. The impact of the stardom, parody, and genuine comedy set many celebrities off, but also touched the souls of ordinary Americans, as the Wayans exposed the Emperors being naked. America needed to see that behind the perfect exterior of our famous icons, were regular and often, fallible people. Damon Wayans, as a staple to the American diet, played a hardworking Father, alongside the great actress, Tisha Campbell, to a beautiful Black family and the message was to show that regardless of the issues, the ups and downs, the ebbs & flows of multiple individuals, a family can remain together, united. As a fan, this series was climatic. What else could Damon achieve? Cartoons? Producer & Writing credits? True stars never wane.

Our honoree, The Comedian of the Decade 2020-2030, is the Avant-Garde of Comedy. This award is not just for Damon, but to the host of people in which his success is inextricable bound. Damon Wayons is a star within a great American movement, which happened to take place in comedy at the dawn of the second Millennium, the 21st Century. This movement told the Emperor, that He had no clothes, and this had never been done so eloquently before. One might say, the entire Wayans Clan from Keenan to Jim Carrey to David Alan Grier, to Tommy Davidson, to Jamie Foxx to Kelly, Kim & even, Jennifer Lopez... Handing the torch to Shawn & Marlon Wayans, and consequently, Damon Wayans Jr. Do not doubt, that 'funny,' was once owned by one family. To rename, this Honor, "The Decade of In Living Color," and roll out a train of accolades & honorary titles to our Heroes, would be in-sync with praise of our Honoree. We lift up in appreciation and celebrate, The Comedian of the Decade, Damon Wayans.

"Empire of Lies" or "Land of Hope & Dreams"

To criticize one's government at war is the zenith of folly and the danger it potentially awakens is entirely avoidable with compliance. Thus, most honest productive citizens live a life of conformity, wisely choosing to bear the burdens of their own sins, and leaving the business of high office to those believed suited for such matters. Yet, when a sincere effort to reveal the hidden hypocrisies of their government arises, when most choose to ignore this dirty business, one should be most circumspect due to the consequences of being branded a traitor or seditious. The character of the author of such a report is most important, for the implications are real, and the dangers being avoidable, are ultimately unnecessary. It is in this state of unnecessary, that high evils, hegemony, high secrets, hidden agendas, and national hypocrisies live. To even point at the direct of these truths, is self evident of potential madness or genuine dedication to the service of one's countrymen, because the cost could be one's reputation, livelihood, or even life. If those high secrets and agendas have historically oppressed one's entire race within that nation,  then the exposure of such secrets are less fearful, even courageous, because all Men seek freedom from oppression and enslavement. The freedom offered in this article is awareness.

First, as an American citizen, I would like to tilt my hat and commend my President Joseph R. Biden for his sterile cleaning of the American governing apparatus. The divisive rhetoric spread through the American experiment by his predecessor from 2016-2020, at its height, threatened to destroy the entire country and its 246 year history of lessons and losses. This stabilization is foremost, President Biden's most glaring achievement, as the forces of anarchy have been beached and the hope for future collaboration and civility restored. Yet, among this achievement rose a great threat, which in seeking to correct political partial-ness and intolerance, the need for a common narrative. Albeit, the necessity of a common narrative in a nation is of great importance especially in carrying out the affairs of government, the enemies of liberty, capitalists & opportunistic demagogues, captured the narrative and injected a sore evil into its tenets. The sore evil, was the legalese technique of omission of fact. A common narrative for a nation must weigh "the good, the bad, and the ugly" for productive citizens to properly make decisions regarding the direction of the common nation. The idea within the American experiment, historically has always considered, debated, and fought for a common truth for the people to live among. Still, the injection of omission of fact, into the common narrative allows for the wholesale manipulation of the entire country, where honest, indifferent, and criminal will march to the same beating drum. This is a grave moment in American history. In the courtroom, omission of fact allows the guilty to escape true justice, but in the world at large, is still just what the fact omits, a lie. What has arisen among the sterile cleaning of the American governing machine, without careful attention and possibly with un-intention, or lack of awareness of those in the halls of power, is a new common narrative injected with the rule of omission of fact. If then, the President, with his greatest intention to move this nation forward with a resolve for a common narrative to dissolve alternative narratives, was unaware of this development, then the nation, and its people, were at risk of being derailed from any sure destination a common narrative would naturally lead to. Now, let us discuss the American media and the multiple crisis at hand, the pandemic, COVID-19, and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

Parents Must Teach Their Children How To Love

One of the most crucial and important lessons a parent must instill into their children is, how to love. One cannot learn how to love from the outside community or masses of our children will be endangered to pursue relationships which are counter to the development of their home culture & community. One cannot learn to love their home culture without first learning to love the familiar culture of their home and family. The family is the basis of all society and of every nation. In the family, one learns the many types of varieties of love. These varieties are the intimate love between their Father & Mother and the proper love between sibling brothers & sisters. Then, one learns the love of cousins, Aunts & Uncles, and the wider community of family, friends, and the culture from which one is created and from which a person is inextricably bound. The lesson of how to love is of such an important lesson from a parent to the child, that the failure to teach this value can single-handedly destroy an entire family, and in mass, an entire group of people.

A parent must be conscious that the training one's child to know how to love is most vital to their success. Ultimately, if a community of parents are blind to this important role of Parent-ship, then they will produce a generation of broken homes, broken families, & broken individuals. The reason is clear. To have a healthy culture and community, the people must understand the delicate roles of Men & women. It is not a coincidence to promote misunderstanding in gender roles, especially when gender has been naturally defined both by biology and the evolution of human society over hundreds of thousands of years. It is not a coincidence that the destruction of the Black American Family coincides with the education of the erosion of solid gender identity in America. Every animal species has gender roles from the Bull & Heifer, Rooster & Hen, to the Lion Pride. Insects have gender roles. Amphibians have gender role. Marine animals and fish have gender roles. Even, the entire plant Kingdom is based on male & female roles. Please do not be deceived or find oneself lost in an agenda of the hegemony. These roles are not trivial, and stand as the vanguard and pillar of your culture & species. The balance of Men and Women is a practical science, of which the products are strong families, communities, cultures, and nations. The alternative is broken families and individuals, broken communities, and broken misunderstood culture. A broken nation will self destruct and destroy its very own people, in addition to surrounding nations.

So, take this lesson from a once broken man and Father. It is not enough and dangerous for people to learn how to love from popular culture, television, porn, and even, friends. For example, learning how to love from porn creates an individual, who holistically misunderstands the role of a man or a woman. The relationship with that individual will not only destroy that woman or man, but everyone if they don't receive help, that person has an intimate relationship going forward, including children and their successive relationships. To learn how to love from a foreign outsider or an outside culture, if nefarious, or even simply, naive, can create a diversive individual and/or generation, that will serve counter to the cultural progress of the group or nation. Many Americans, especially in the advent of television, cell phones, & social media have suffered unnecessarily because their concept of love was impractical, hyperbolized, and fantastical. Our Black American children, or any nation of children, must be shown how to love and taught the crucible of family and culture. This is one of the most important lessons a parent must teach their sons and daughters. So, that there is no question of their identity or orientation, and why.The purpose must be clearly outlined and stated. This cannot be left to chance. Young men and women in mass are incapable of selecting a proper life partner because they lack the insight and experience of life. Hence, the reason in older neighboring culture & nations, it is the family, who selects the life partner of their child. How to love is taught at home either intentionally directly or unintentionally indirectly. The lesson gets taught regardless. In Black America, Black women in some urban cities are 70% more likely to be single. Next to Black healthcare, and the mass extermination of Native Americans, how to love and the destruction of the Black American family is the single greatest American tragedy without massive outrage. Teach your children how to love properly, it is one of the best gifts you can depart to your child, community, and nation.

A Sacrifice On The Altar of Toxic Femininity

Photo courtesy of Clip-Art Magazine 2022

Recently, I ran into a newly Divorced childhood friend in Walmart and she had her two children with her. We were excited to see each other and we walked around catching up on the latest in our lives. She seemed happy and intent with moving forward with her new life. We briefly discussed her husband, child support, and the future of my troubled relationship on the horizon. While we talked, I could not help but to recognize the look of anger in her daughters eyes. Her precious daughters used to be full of life and cheer, but not on this day. I did not mention the look, because I was not sure of the source, but I do remember after paying for our items and saying our goodbyes, the look troubled me, because it was the same look I had when my parents split when I was a child. I carried that look and all the emotions well into my adulthood. I never told my friend, how I really felt about her divorce and how it affected her children, but the evidence was a foreshadow to my own journey into my troubled relationship.

For the past year, I have suffered from arrested development. I discovered that my love and partner of seven years was having multiple affairs and I walked away from the relationship. However, immediately, I was dragged into court and forced to defend myself from a Protective Order, which was filed and based on lies, deception, and the smokescreen appeal of being a victim. In addition to this, the person who I had loved and supported for seven years decided that she would actively prevent my daughter from seeing me. The stress was overwhelming. How could a person, I had given so much to, for so long, and enriched with new life & family, turn around and try to "tar & feather" destroy me? Especially when she is caught in the wrong or did I miss something? At first, I sought to occupy myself with new hobbies like dancing and poetry. I needed an outlet to vent my frustrations to escape, especially coming to terms with new information about my ex, and with the reality of my broken family. For a brief moment, I fell into the self destruction of alcoholism, but quickly realized that the bottom of a bottle is endless and it could never solve the issues I was facing. So, I decided to write about my struggle and one of the reasons I believe my family was broken beyond repair, Toxic Femininity.

Growing up in a single Mother household, I would often hear the devaluing of men and shortcomings of my Father. "Your Daddy isn't sending one cent to make sure you have clothes on your back, food to eat, or lights to see." And I internalized many of these sayings and would often confront my Father with his issues with my Mother. And these ideas prevented me from having the full trust in my Father, even though I would later move in with him and be raised under his guidance. My Father's love was rock steady and 'til this day, I do not know a greater man, than my Father. As I grew older, I got to see the other side of the story, which I did not get from Mother. It wasn't until my Father and I took a trip to our hometown in Africa, at my Grandfather's funeral of seven days, that I finally gave up the anger and Toxic Femininity, that I had carried with me my entire childhood. I was 26 years old. I forgave him because I realized without him, I would not be the productive, sincere, loving, merciful, graceful, en-depth, and resilient character that I am today. Yet, in turn, I had to recognize that my mother's perspective was flawed and one-sided.

Moving forward, I learned that my story was not uncommon in the African American community. In the Post-Civil Rights Era from 1970-2000, the percentage of African American children being raised in a two parent household plummeted from 75% to 33%. In Baltimore City, in 2020, it was recorded that 9 out of 10 African American children were being raised by single parent mothers. And in many cities in America, over 70% of African American women were single. Analysts, and prominent leaders have been sounding the alarm for decades about the destruction of the Black Family and the direct correlation with the loss of Black wealth in America. If the family is the basis of any community or nation, then truly the Black family in America was at the brink of demise. In conjunction with the demise of the Black Family is the rise of Toxic Femininity. The African American woman has become extremely attracted to the Feminist Movement, its ideas, and concepts to attempt to understand their precarious position in America. However, unlike the White American Woman, the Black American woman is also restrained by race and this omission of fact has mislead the masses of our contemporary Mothers, Aunts, and Sisters to support ideas, which disrupt the sanctity and union of their Black families. The common experience of the Black Man and Woman, has been tossed aside and the sword of White American feminism has been brought into the home. The sacrifice is the Black Family. Sojourner Truth, warned her fellow Black sisters & brothers against this omission of fact, in her famous oratory, "Ain't I A Woman?" Truth did this in support of Fredrick Douglas and the right to vote for Black Men over support of the White Feminist Suffrage with Susan B. Anthony. The Black American Woman's plight was inextricable interwoven with the plight of the Black Man in America. Truth's point was valid then and even more today. However, the systems of oppression in the 21st Century are less visible than during the Post-bellum era, yet the vestiges are more entrenched and hidden. Thus, while the Post-Civil Rights Era break up of the Black American Family may seem like the failure of character by Black Men or Black Women, it fails to recognize the systematic economic, political, social and academic influences of the wider American government policies towards African Americans. If the American culture has decided to unemploy, vilify, emasculate, criminalize, de-fund, imprison, and destroy the Black Man, while at the same time, uplift, employ, house, educate, glorify, fund, and worship the Black Woman, then the Black American family ultimately by design was to be the first casualty and sacrifice. In conjunction with the destruction of the Black family has been the rise of Toxic Feminist rhetoric against Men, which seemingly benign fighting for equal pay, equal status, and across the board equality. These aims are just and not a disputed point of feminism in this article. However, Black families have never had the same employment, wealth, or across the board economic rates as White American Families, then how is it justifiable that the Black Woman has become the torch bearer of Feminism in America. The Black Woman's new position, literally torches the concept of the Black family, and adds fuel to the ongoing attack on her sons, brothers, nephews, Uncles, Husbands, and Fathers. Now, back to toxic femininity and the reason my immediate family is broken. One could blame lack of character, infidelity, poor upbringing, or even social media. But I would not be acknowledging the ripple effect of my Ex's mother growing up without a father, and her Mother's personal story for why she choose to raise her daughter without a Father, and now, my Ex's decision to break her own family and raise my daughter without a Father. That is three generations of "Fatherless" women and a true American tragedy. It is not a secret that nature intended children to have both parents. Thus, a belief system that one should raise children alone does not form over night, but rather is a product of experience, and humans are impressionable. The North American form of slavery first introduced the idea or concept of broken family to the African. This idea continues for the same effect, but under a different guise. Toxic Femininity is the excuse or creation of a justification for feminism or the ability to act in benefit of a woman in spite of the affect on the people, male or female surrounding and/or its consequences. It allows women to justify doing whatever they want regardless of the results or consequences in the name of feminist progress. Toxic Femininity will justify wearing revealing clothing in church, among people who conserve or believe women serve as the model for others and how they should be treated. Toxic Femininity endorses promiscuity & divorce, not because of domestic abuse or infidelity, but because "you've fallen out of love," and fails to see how it destroys the children and family. Toxic Femininity then turns and destroys itself, because it is a system of worshiping oneself, as a woman. Views in toxic femininity are held not just by women but by men, as well. I, myself purported these concepts erroneously to my Father and to other "Deadbeat," Dads. Thus, these ideas are not delegated to women alone. Toxic Femininity and Feminism at large, endorses homosexuality and lesbianism, which is contrary to African tradition. It must be stated, that the African offense to homosexuality is not because of lack of introduction, but a flat out rejection from the culture because of our attachment to nature & ancestral worship. African communities were based on agrarian & communal traditions, where defense and village population could determine whether a clan or tribe survived or perished. Large families were crucial to survival. Some will say that Sodom and Gomorrah were a "Black" settlements and the offense lead to many nations warring to destroy not just the practice, but the very idea of homosexuality in those cities. Africans have not forgotten this history. However, I digress... Toxic Femininity is extremely narcissistic, the epitome of vanity, and a character in the cult of personality. It is not to be taken lightly because all American families are being afflicted with misguided Feminism due to the improper teaching of its tenets & history in the American public school system. I pray the Black American family can both recognize and discard this evil for the sake of our children, our daughters, sisters, nieces, Aunts, Wives, Mothers, and ourselves.

-Uriel Wise

PS. This article does not omit Toxic Masculinity's role in the break up of the Black Family. However, we are in a pendulum swing and we are looking at the American social attempt to destroy the Black Male. A time similar to the birth of Moses, birth of Jesus, or the Birth of Us...
